Ice Skating Sarah:
You’re correct, vintage skates make great decorations for a country or holiday decor.
Two years ago I visited my great-uncle in Haibuhl, Germany, where my grandfather grew up. I was lucky enough to be given both my grandfathers ice skates, strap ons with metal, wood, and leather bits, and his ski poles, both easily over 100 years old!
I’ll have all you AD readers know that I was able to convince the authorities at Frankfuhrt airport that I had to carry these on the plane with me…they were too valuable to check.
My shocked parents, whom I was escorting around Germany, still are amazed that my limited German was enough to convince the security guards to let me carry the sharp blades and pointy poles onto the plane…but I did it!
Other than having elderly relatives in rustic European environs who save everything, I’m sorry I have no shopping assistance for you.
bonne chance!
Antique Diva,
I’m searching for an item to help decorate my home here in Holland for Christmas and I had heard that vintage wooden ice skates were fairly easy to find at the antique shops in Holland but I haven’t had any luck finding them. Any tips?
Here’s hoping the canals freeze this winter!

Happy and enjoyable shopping to everyone who is gonna be in Amsterdam. Actually Toma, my son Renos is leaving for Amsterdam tomorrow morning!
Oh to be in Amsterdam for this sale. Diva, you have given me a new idea for sales. Now, I just have to convince my husband to give up a couple of rooms of the house. LOL. Ah well, the basement works well too. This sale looks really beautiful, happy shopping!
