The Antiques Diva to Speak at The Houses of Parliament
American Toma Clark Haines, CEO of World’s Largest Antiques Touring Company, to Bridge Cultures in Presentation on International Business in House of Lords
LONDON – February 21, 2017 Toma Clark Haines, CEO of The Antiques Diva & Co, has been invited to offer a presentation in the UK Parliament’s House of Lords during the LAPADA Conference. LAPADA is the largest Association of Art and Antiques Dealers in the UK. The ninth edition day-long event will take place Thursday, February 23, 2017, in the House of Lords historic Cholmondeley Room.
Establishing Trust with Clients
Toma Clark Haines will offer a presentation entitled Establishing Trust with Clients, addressing factors such as the influence a customer’s decision making has in buying from one dealer over another as well as what creates a sense of trust in establishing long-term international relationships with clients. Clark Haines runs Europe & Asia’s largest antiques touring and sourcing company. She will talk through what she sees as the main drivers in creating trusted relationships between buyers and sellers, offering tips on how to develop these relationships and how to best communicate with American clients.
Broadcast on Facebook LIVE
Interested participants not able to attend the conference in London are invited to watch Clark Haines’ address Thursday, Feb 23, 2017 at 3pm GMT (10am EST) broadcast on FACEBOOK LIVE on the Toma Clark Haines Facebook page.
“At The Antiques Diva & Co we’re in essence ambassadors of design.” explains Clark Haines “We are antique matchmakers: bridging the gap between our client’s buying needs and the vendors in the various countries.” Offering one-on-one customized antique buying tours in 14 countries on two continents means The Antiques Diva & Co needs to understand both the local culture – the ethos of the seller – as well as the psychology of the buyer. “I’ve assembled a team of 24 locally-based buying guides in our tour countries,” explains Clark Haines. “These are experts in the industry. For example, our England Head Antiques Diva agent Gail McLeod is founder of National Antiques Week and Antiques Young Guns as well active on the board of Antiques Are Green and owner of Google’s top-ranked antiques fair website, Antiques News and Fairs.”
“When discussing the psychology of a sale, a variety of factors are at play,” explains the American CEO of LAPADA Rebecca Davies, who works closely with LAPADA Chairman, Lord Chadlington, “The UK is one of the largest art and antiques markets internationally and the changing landscape of the online marketplace has meant that even provincial dealers now have a worldwide audience. For LAPADA, we know that our members are THE experts in their field – it is quality, craftsmanship and provenance that continues to attract an international audience to our dealers.” For buyers working with LAPADA dealers, there is an inherent security in sourcing from this association.
Trade Online More Securely
As business transactions increasingly move from the physical to the digital realm, this year’s LAPADA Conference will focus on how art and antiques dealers can trade online more securely, better protecting themselves and their clients. In addition to Clark Haines, Cyber Resiliency Expert Dan Sloshberg of Mimecast and Philip James of Sheridan’s Technology and Data Privacy group among others will impart professional advice on a range of topics from dealing with cyber-attacks and protecting clients’ data to how to comply with Distance Selling Regulations and understanding copyright laws.
“The LAPADA Conference is designed to help our members keep abreast of significant changes that affect the trade and to provide practical information that they can apply directly to their own businesses,” says Rebecca Davies, LAPADA Association CEO. “We listen to feedback from dealers throughout the year and endeavor to address the issues about which they are most concerned.”
The daylong event is kindly sponsored by Rawlinson & Hunter, ArtRatio, Besso Limited, Cadogan Tate, Malca-Amit and Antiques Trade Gazette.
