Buying “notions” in Italy

And just as you can buy Hermès in most major cities in the world, or online at any time, buying Hermès in Paris is special. If you shop in America, you’re buying haberdashery, but if you shop in Italy, you’re buying passamaneria – not just a household accessory, but an entire language, culture and romance.
You’re not just buying tassels and trims, you’re buying a memory.

Studio Judith,
So glad you agree!!!
Victorian Cobweb!
Naked?? Oh think what fun we could have dressing it up!!!
Mary,
You hit the nail on the head on what I love about European life… "all of the depth of character that such a life entails."
Thistle Cove Farm,
With finds such as these, I think you need to take me on a tour!!!!
Draffin Bears,
So glad you enjoyed the post and I'm certain you'd enjoy the shop in person!
Thanks Alicia!!! Italy does the soul good!
Looking fabulous Toma!!!
That is a lovely post.
The little shop ~ Passamanerin Valmar looks wonderful and I would so love to go there one day.
I love haberdashery shops and could spend hours looking around for tassels and trims and buttons and bows.
You look like you are having a fabulous holiday.
Hugs
Carolyn
What a great post! I've worn scarves and hats for decades and am often the only woman in both no matter the occasion. As to the house, we're still renovating so decorations will have to wait until sheet rock dust is gone, paint is up and we return to what passes for normal on a horse and sheep farm -smile-.
My best thrift store find…a Hermes scarf and, oh my, wouldn't I love to have more of them!
Fantastic post–I feel as if I were actually back living in Europe with all of the depth of character that such a life entails. Needless to say, I love passementerie, Fortuny, tapestries, etc., etc., etc. Thanks so much.
Okay, Okay! I'm learning, didn't know just how "naked" my house was! Oh well, little here and little there, one day!
You are looking very rested Ms. Diva, glad you are having a wonderful holiday.
"Notions" are truly the household equivalent of that Hermes scarf!
