In an antiquer’s tale come full circle, this collection, estimated at 2 million euros, began a mere 20 years ago at the scene of the sale. Enter 2 American book dealers from New York, Justin Schiller and Dennis David, who while visiting Amsterdam for a book sale had a few extra hours on their hands and chose to spend it at Sotheby’s, where a private collection of Dutch Art Nouveau and Deco was on sale. They fell for this modern style hook, line and sinker, and began crossing the Atlantic as regularly as if it were the Long Island Ferry, returning home to their chi-chi upstate New York mansions with their luggage full of drawings, prints, sculpture and ceramics from Holland’s Finest Dutch designers, including toorop.com/” target=”_blank”>Toorop, Van Hoytema, Van der Leck, Rietveld, Colenbrander, topic/jacob-mendes-da-costa” target=”_blank”>Mendes da Costa and Nieuwenhuis.
Now, 20 years later, Schiller and David are relocating back to The City (for we all know New York need not be mentioned by name), and their Upper East End abode will undoubtedly only hold so much – thus the sale and an incredible opportunity for Diva’s to cash in on a chance to buy Dutch art of renowned provenance and style.
Be there or be square!
