Bright Bazaar

Dear Diva Readers,

Sometimes I want inspiration; other times I need information; still other times I just want to see what is going on in the world. But what I love about decorating and design blogs is that they inspire us to live better at home. Most of us spend a majority of time (and if not quantities of time, then most definitely quality-time) at home. One blog I follow is Bright Bazaar by Will Taylor.  I first met Will when we were both selected for #BlogTourNewYork several years ago and have been following his catapult to fame ever since!  His keen eye for spotting and using color takes the fear out of decorating with hues of every kind.  And now, his musings on color can be found in a fabulous coffee table book calledBright Bazaar: Embracing Color for Make-You-Smile Style.

The book features over 350 photos of interiors from all over the world. Will shares his tips on introducing color into your home whether that be through accessories, painted furniture or bold patterned wall paper. Not only does the book provide inspirational photos (inspiration often being the first step of the creative process), it takes readers to the next practical step of decorating by giving advice on how to incorporate certain color palettes into specific rooms.

What I love is looking through the book and seeing the connection between antiques and color. Vintage furniture is given a new life with a couple coats of brightly hued paint. Pillows add personality to a room when their covers are made from antique patterned fabrics. Even serious antiques like Bombay chests can have a fresh lease on life when lacquered in a bold color. If these dynamic photos don’t prove that antiques aren’t boring, I don’t know what does?  Will’s youthful perspective takes color (something that’s often scary) and antiques (something that’s often intimidating) and shows how both can live together in a modern, fun and playful way.

Now that’s what I call Make-You-Smile style!  Well done Will!

Colorfully,

The Antiques Diva®

  • What I love about this is the obvious, the color! While I adore the greys and light antiques so en vogue currently, they are not for everyone. These images bring inspiration to not always take vintage pieces so seriously. While I wouldn’t paint a 17th century piece obviously, adding a bright glossy color to a vintage piece of lesser pedigree gives it new life, and brings a conversation starting element into any interior.
