Najaarsexpositie in The Hague

top:2px;padding-right:5px;font-family:times;”>Just last weekend I wrote sharing details on one of my favorite vendors in The Hague, S van Leeuwen, and not so long before that I was divulging details on the oh-so-diva-worthy Rocks & Clocks. They recently teamed up Chez van Leeuwen for an Antiques Diva Tour of The Hague, sharing historical information and fascinating stories on their inventory and seriously regaling the ladies on the group Diva Tour. They’re back together again for what I’m certain will be a wonderfully good time (full of great buys) in S. van Leeuwen’s Najaarsexpositie Dec 3-13, 2009. You’ll want to add this date to your December To Do’s!

to 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center” alt=”” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/SxPQ-A6piuI/AAAAAAAAD18/faEZPPcQKGQ/s400/s+van+leeuwen+expotie.jpg” border=”0″ />to 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center” alt=”” src=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/SxPQ56mZAoI/AAAAAAAAD10/mvnK2qhyzA8/s400/rocksandclocks.jpg” border=”0″ />S. van Leeuwen specializes in antique Dutch furniture, Chinese & Delft porcelain as well as high quality silver work, while you’ll recall Rocks & Clocks specializes in classic and designer jewelry from 1900-1940.

Make sure to stop at S. van Leeuwen’s located at Noordeinde 164 on one of the following dates:

Dec 3 & 10, 5-9pm
Dec 4 & 11, 12-5pm
Dec 5, 12-4pm
Dec 12, 12-5pm
Dec 6-13, 12-5

Not only will S. van Leeuwen & Rocks & Clocks be offering special items just in time for Christmas, but they’ll be joined by their colleague from Antes Art Form, a specialist in French glassworks from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau period as well as Brigitta Sueters who makes jewelry inspired by the past!

to 10px; WIDTH: 75px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 100px; TEXT-ALIGN: center” alt=”” src=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/SxPQ5L4WyOI/AAAAAAAAD1k/vq5RAWrhf_M/s400/kunsthandel+willemspark.jpg” border=”0″ />Kunsthandel Willemspark will be there as well, offering one of my favorite buys. Have I mentioned before in past Diva blog posts my weakness for vintage posters and signs? I’m downright bummed to miss his inventory in person as while this event is going on I’ll be doing La Diva Loca for a few days this December in New York City! My loss might be your gain as there’ll be more for you to buy if I’m not on the scene scooping up the goods before you!

to 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center” alt=”” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/SxPQ-tihoLI/AAAAAAAAD2E/e0Rnv6BKsSo/s400/susanne+hats.jpg” border=”0″ />Last but not least, I think the dealers stepped on a stroke of genius when they decided to branch out beyond antiques by offering a little something extra – wearable art! Hat designer Suzanne Scheepers will be onboard showing her hand-made designs, making this event a perfect Diva’s Day Out!! I’m seriously bummed to miss it!!! You’ll just have to go on my behalf and, as always, tell them The Antiques Diva™ sent you!

Happy Shopping!!!

Diva-scovery: The Hague’s Cachot Antiek

top:2px;padding-right:5px;font-family:times;”>I want to introduce you to one of my favorite shops in The Netherlands – Cachot, a charming antique shop located in the heart of The Hague. Just around the corner from the main antiques drag in Den Haag – the Denneweg – Cachot is located on the Maliestraat in a historic Rijksmonument building dating back from 1670. A trip to the store is as much a treat for the treasures contained within the building as it is for a chance to delve deep into this landmark building. The proprietors Frans and Nellie Rovers have thought of everything, making this shop absolutely charming, decorating the store as if it’s the setting for a soon-to-be fete whilst stocking an inventory that has clients traveling into The Hague from far and away to see their diva-worthy collection.

And while their inventory runs the gamut from empire dishes to ostrich eggs, their specialty is antique French mirrors from the period 1850 – 1910. No matter when you visit Cachot, you’ll always find a plethora of antique mirrors in a variety of sizes and finishes from various periods.

top:2px;padding-right:5px;font-family:times;”>A friend in the blogosphere just emailed, sharing insight into a new project she’s started called “Sketches for Charity” and I wanted to spread the word about her project.

Tina Steele Lindsey is a talented full-time artist residing in Atlanta, focusing on abstract works and figures as well as creating custom pieces for private spaces. Sketches for Charity is an opportunity for you to do “good works” while scoring high-quality art work for incredibly reasonable prices. She’s kicking off this program with a sketch titled “JuJu B” selling for $50, an incredible bargain for art lovers. The full proceeds of the donation will go towards one of the following organizations: Doctors Without Borders, CARE, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Visit Tina Steele Lindsey’s website for more details and stay tuned to Lindsey’s site for future Sketch for Charity Opportunities!

Dear Diva Readers,

top:2px;padding-right:5px;font-family:times;”>In preparation for to-join-two-special-antiques.html” target=”_blank”>Diva Tours Fall French Flea Market Extravaganza, I wanted to highlight again one of my favorite vendors at tou/foire/jamb.htm” target=”_blank”>La Foire Nationale à la Brocante et aux Jambon. This Paris-suburb flea-market in Chatou is in only a few weeks and the anticipation is driving me crazy – everyone is talking about it! I can almost smell the ham in the air! In this One Minute Diva, I wanted to encourage Diva Readers visiting Chatou this fall to stop by (and shop your heart out) at one of my favorite vendors – Blandine Bavoux’s quintessentially French stall located at 72 Allée Nouvelle.

Armchair travelers, don’t despair! The good news is that you don’t have to go to The National Fair of the Flea Market and Ham to benefit from Blandine’s cute French country kitchen collectibles and antiques. You can either stop by her stall at Chatou or buy online at Jolietrouvaille! Either way, make sure you tell her The Antiques Diva™ sent you! By the way, I happen to know she keeps a stash of cookies and warm tea on a shelf in her stall – it’s reserved for special guests but I’m certain if you linger long enough that she’d indulge you!

Dear Diva,

top: 2px; padding-right: 5px; font-family: times;”>I love your blog! You have inspired me!! I am traveling to Paris on April 28 for 1 week and am hoping to go to Chatou. Do you know if the flea market is on-going? Perhaps during the weekend only?

Thanks!
Robin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dearest Robin,
top: 2px; padding-right: 5px; font-family: times;”>I hate to dash your dreams, but the Foire Nationale de la Brocante et Jambon won’t be going on when you’re in Paris next week! This fair, held in Chatou, is only twice a year and you just missed the March 6 – 15, 2009 dates and the next dates for this fair are not until Sept 25-Oct 4, 2009.
to 10px; width: 240px; cursor: hand; height: 320px; text-align: center;” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/SemLVzfmucI/AAAAAAAAC5o/gObZOKToW7c/s320/027.JPG” alt=”” border=”0″ />Paris Flea Market Dates
A good standby for flea marketing anytime when in Paris is the torique/Default.htm” target=”_blank”>Paris flea market at Porte de Clignancourt, officially called Les Puces de Saint-Ouen. This well-organized flea market has no stalls set up on blankets in the street – instead it has permanent structures housing millions of euro of inventory, complete with 13 districts, 2000 vendors & 7 miles of alleys! It’s on every weekend Friday – Monday. Friday is dealer day, Saturday and Sunday is shopping for mere mortals. Monday is a nice day to go as there are smaller crowds at this typically overcrowded market; however, many of the vendors are closed or close early in the spirit of TGIM! (Thank God It’s Monday).
Another regularly scheduled weekend flea market in Paris is the Porte de Vanves market. Not as big as Les Puces, this market in Paris’ 14eme arrondisment has more than 350 vendors open Saturday and Sunday from 7am-3pm all year. The smaller-sized makes it a more compact outing for a morning’s brocanting.
to 10px; width: 320px; cursor: hand; height: 100px; text-align: center;” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/SemLWKwbUzI/AAAAAAAAC54/ga8_GGdGBMQ/s320/brocabrac.gif” alt=”” border=”0″ />If you’d like to wander off the tourist paths, then consider going to a traveling brocante. I did a wee bit of research for you and on 1-3rd May there will be a traveling brocante at the Brocante Square des Batignolles. BrocaBrac is a great site to discover what flea markets are happening when and where across France. To navigate the site, simply click on the map, check the area of France you will be visiting and a list of flea markets happening within the next month will appear, telling you the location of the markets. Click on the market and more information will appear including the number of vendors and the hours of market operation. Be sure to check out this secret diva source before your next trip to Paris… and speaking of Paris, I’m off myself to the city of light this next weekend, but more on that later!
Until then… à bientôt et bon voyage!
Freakin’ Fabulous – Reader’s Tip
Dear Diva,
top:2px;padding-right:5px;font-family:times;”>I wanted your readers to know that I just got a really fun book this week. It’s called “Freakin’ Fabulous” (How to Dress, Speak, Behave, Eat, Drink, Entertain, Decorate and Generally Be Better Than Everyone Else) by Clinton Kelly.
He has some GREAT tips but does it in such a way that it’s really entertaining reading. It has article titles such as “What’s the one trick that will slim down your entire silhouette and make your ta-tas look va-va-voom?’ and “How do you eat an oyster without getting kicked out of the best restaurant in town?” I think my favorite title though is “Even the prettiest ducks can be ferocious”.
The book is really a hoot! If you get a chance, check it out!
Dear Antiques Diva,
top:2px;padding-right:5px;font-family:times;”>I noticed in my recent Antique Week paper something that your Diva Readers/shopping tour clients will be interested in attending. The Brussels Antiques and Fine Arts Fair will be later this month! It looks like it will be great – the article quotes:
“BRAFA will truly feature a more international flavor in 2009 – two American galleries – Sophie Scheidecker Fine Art from New York and topDefault.aspx?tabid=10&tabindex=9&dealerid=9246&curidx=0&back=name” target=”_blank”>Tony Anninos Asian Art from California – will have a presence among its 18 new exhibitors, as well as galleries from Hungary and Russia will make their debut.”
Fair dates are Jan. 23 – Feb. 1, 2009 daily from 11am to 7pm and will be held in Brussels at the Tour & Taxis building, avenue du Port 86 C/ B – 1000 Brussels. Late nights opening Monday 26th January 2009 until 9.00pm and Thursday 29 January 2009 until 10.30pm. Admission is 20E per person.
It sounds like this fair is going international in a big way. From the article it sounds like it is going to be a great fair – one that doesn’t need to be missed! Another source writes that BRAFA, “reaffirms its respected eclectic position in the heart of Europe. From the centuries-old everyday objects to the most prestigious masterpieces, visiting this antiques fair offers an unforgettable view of the incredible skills of craftsmen and artists of the past… In a way, it is a real “temporary museum” which opens every time, appealing to the eyes and sensibilities of all discerning visitors.”
