Recently I’ve been reminiscing a lot, looking through old photos and remembering good times. One of the photos that leapt out at me was this photo I took on Muhu Island, Estonia while staying at the small luxury resort Padaste Manor.
Brunch at Padaste Manor is one of my best travel memories.
Brunch was filled with traditional favorites, such as soft-boiled eggs and fruit salad, as well as surprising elements such as Swedish Meatballs! On day 3 at the estate our Estonian waitress who’d been assigned to look after us during the duration of our stay leaned over and whispered in my husband’s ear… “I know you like those Swedish Meatballs… the chef wasn’t going to make them today but I told him he HAD to make them for you!”
And while I don’t normally drink champagne at breakfast, at this luxury resort in the Baltic’s I knew that the Russian “champagne” was the perfect accompaniment to the surroundings. And besides – I was on vacation – and if you can’t drink “champagne” for breakfast on vacation, when can you?
The old stone walls on historic buildings dotting the property were partially overgrown with moss. Each table was clad with starched white linens while tuxedoed wait-staff attended to our every whim. The well-maintained grounds radiated a sense of peace and the resort as a whole epitomized simple luxury.
Located along the shores of the Baltic Sea, Padaste Manor is a former residence of a 16th C Danish king and each guest today is treated as if they themselves were royalty. Horses roamed freely on the estate as we brunched alfresco, taking in the scenery – and following brunch we hopped on these very horses for an afternoon along the shore or through the meadows and surrounding forests.
A perfect day.
