Gala Magazine

Dear Diva Readers,

The Antiques Diva

When Gala Magazine  – the French equivalent of People magazine – wanted to take a Shopping Tour of the Paris Flea Market –  who did they call?   That’s right! The Antiques Diva® & Co.

Diva Guide Extraordinaire Danielle Pelletier took their journalists and photographers by the hand and led them on our insider’s tour of the famous Paris flea market, showing them 7 miles of antique-filled alleyways, 13 flea market districts and telling them how on our antiques buying tours we help clients by translating, negotiating and liaising clients with shippers for international shipping.

We were thrilled when the issue came out this November 2013 – and we were  listed as the best tour company at the Paris Flea Market!

While we’ve been really fortunate to get some brilliant press over the years, I’ve got to say… this press simply tickled me pink!

HiP Paris Antiques Tour

Dear Diva Readers,

Paris Diva Guide – Franca

They shopped with one of my Paris Diva Guides – Franca – and my favorite line of the article reads, “After experiencing a guided {Paris Flea Market} tour, though, we couldn’t imagine a serious antique-buying spree without our lovely Franca there to guide us to the real gems and ease away our fears with her expert bargaining.”

Franca is an absolute gem and simply an expert antique shopper and I must tell you that I consider myself  down-right lucky and honored to work with 4 lovely ladies in Paris – they help me guide Paris Antiques Diva Tours when one of the other 6 countries where we offer tours has me away from the city of light and I’m not able to lead tours myself!  I’ve gathered a team of professional stylistas who know Paris like the back of their hand to guide Diva Clients through the Paris Fleas… and whether you’re shopping with Franca, Kim, Jennifer or Laila this statement from HiP Paris holds true!

Each time a client takes a tour they tend to write me the nicest notes, thanking me for introducing them to their new best friend in Paris – saying “I couldn’t imagine shopping the Paris Flea Market without The Antiques Diva & Co by my side”.

On Antiques Diva Tours, we don’t just shop with you – we share our life!  We’re like your interior decorator, personal shopper and best friend combined and it just so happens we have an incredibly chic little black book of the best addresses in town and it’s our goal to match our contacts with your shopping desires to help you find that perfect souvenir from Paris! Don’t forget that in French “souvenir” means memories – and our goal is to help you buy memories so you can bring them home and put them on your mantle!

Sincere thanks to Erica, Ariel and Andrea and the whole Haven in Paris Team for our Paris Flea Market Tour review – make sure to read the tour-of-paris-marche-aux-puces/ ” target=”_blank”>article here and to check all their other great tips on the Haven in Paris blog!!!

My Top 3 Fav Brocantes in Paris!

Dear Diva Readers,

top: 5px; float: left; color: white; background: #781300; border: 1px solid darkkhaki; font-size: 100px; line-height: 90px; padding-top: 1px; padding-right: 5px; font-family: times;”>Each fall and spring you hear me wax on about the famed Foire Nationale à la Brocante et au Jambon in the Parisian suburb of ile de Chatou, but I fear I’ve been neglecting my duties.  While I love the National Fair of the Flea Market and Ham, I have 2 other Parisian brocantes – traveling flea markets – that also get my blood pumping with the same degree of diva fever – and you’re in luck, they’re on soon in Paris!

Top 3 Paris Brocantes:
1) Foire Nationale à la Brocante et aux Jambon (next dates 23 Sep-2 Oct 2011)

2) Antiquities Brocante at Place de Bastille (THIS WEEK May 19-29, 2011 and Nov 4-13, 2011)

3) Antiquities Brocante at St Sulpice (Next Month: June 8-19, 2011)

That’s right – one of my all time favorite markets is on RIGHT NOW in PARIS – The Antiquities Brocante at Place de Bastille is THIS WEEK May 19-29, 2011! If you’re in the city of light, you’d best get shopping!!!  To find out all the diva details read my column “tory/ask-antiques-diva-salon-des-antiquities-de-bastill/” target=”_blank”>Ask The Antiques Diva” in the Bonjour Paris newsletter to find out what sorts of treasures you’ll find at the 480+ vendors selling at this fair!

And should you miss this event, have no fear! Mark your calendar for the fall when the fair is back again this Nov 4-13, 2011!

And speaking of marking your calendar, next month on one of the chicest squares in town – the Place St Sulpice (of Da Vinci Code fame) –  there will be a smaller but oh-so-lovely flea market fair with about 110 vendors selling perfect pieces from Paris from June 8-19th.  An antique dealer friend (who shall remain nameless lest I give all his secrets away) swears by this fair as his source for the best items in his store – plus, he claims that he’s rubbed shoulders on more than one occasion with the squares most famous resident, Madame Catherine Deneuve, whose penthouse apartment overlooks the fair!

Now readers, I have one question for you – Do you have any favorite Brocantes in Paris?? If so, share the details!!!

Bonne Shopping!

Design Commotion and The Antiques Diva Do The Paris Flea Market – VIDEO

to 10px; width: 332px; cursor: hand; height: 400px; text-align: center;” src=”” alt=”” border=”0″ />top: 2px; padding-right: 5px; font-family: times;”>Last month I had the opportunity to “do Paris” on the arm of Saxon Henry, the vivacious force behind Design Commotion, an online design magazine exploring everything hot in the world of design and architecture. Saxon was in Paris with her good friend, the effervescent Patty Otis Abel, writing and researching an article for Delta Airlines in-flight magazine. Stay Tuned for the article in June 2010.

I whisked Saxon & Patty away from the daily grind of 5-star lunches, tours of fancy French museums and private meetings with Paris’ hottest designers and boutique/gallery owners to take them on an all-day outing to the Paris Flea Markets, hitting both Porte de Vanves and the Puce at the Porte de Clignancourt as well as an elusive one-day “vide grenier” (attic sale) before doing cocktails with famed bartender Colin Field at the Ritz Hemingway Bar then dining out at L’Absinthe, catching up with the Queen of Paris, Kim P, and Diva Friend & Helper, Sylvia!

All in all, it was a dashing day… but why tell you about it, when you can WATCH a snippet of our adventure on YOUTUBE!?!

Saxon is a media-marketing warrior with an entourage of gadgets in her bag – and she caught me on film with her FLIP Video camera. On the following video you’ll see me explaining to Saxon Henry how I like to use my antiques and vintage finds in practical ways! In other words, I never display antiques like a grandmother does! Watch & learn while I share a technique for using a vintage glass French flower frog!

A Diva-fession:

My good friend La Reine, author of the She’s Shopping Now blog, originally came up with this idea years ago when she learned that both our husbands were fountain pen collectors! She gave my husband my first flower frog and I’ve been an addict ever since. Reader Question: Paris Flea Market Dates

to 10px; width: 320px; cursor: hand; height: 240px; text-align: center;” src=”” alt=”” border=”0″ />

Dear Diva,

top: 2px; padding-right: 5px; font-family: times;”>I love your blog! You have inspired me!! I am traveling to Paris on April 28 for 1 week and am hoping to go to Chatou. Do you know if the flea market is on-going? Perhaps during the weekend only?

Dearest Robin,

top: 2px; padding-right: 5px; font-family: times;”>I hate to dash your dreams, but the Foire Nationale de la Brocante et Jambon won’t be going on when you’re in Paris next week! This fair, held in Chatou, is only twice a year and you just missed the March 6 – 15, 2009 dates and the next dates for this fair are not until Sept 25-Oct 4, 2009.

to 10px; width: 240px; cursor: hand; height: 320px; text-align: center;” src=”” alt=”” border=”0″ />Paris Flea Market Dates

A good standby for flea marketing anytime when in Paris is the torique/Default.htm” target=”_blank”>Paris flea market at Porte de Clignancourt, officially called Les Puces de Saint-Ouen. This well-organized flea market has no stalls set up on blankets in the street – instead it has permanent structures housing millions of euro of inventory, complete with 13 districts, 2000 vendors & 7 miles of alleys! It’s on every weekend Friday – Monday. Friday is dealer day, Saturday and Sunday is shopping for mere mortals. Monday is a nice day to go as there are smaller crowds at this typically overcrowded market; however, many of the vendors are closed or close early in the spirit of TGIM! (Thank God It’s Monday).
Another regularly scheduled weekend flea market in Paris is the Porte de Vanves market. Not as big as Les Puces, this market in Paris’ 14eme arrondisment has more than 350 vendors open Saturday and Sunday from 7am-3pm all year. The smaller-sized makes it a more compact outing for a morning’s brocanting.
to 10px; width: 320px; cursor: hand; height: 100px; text-align: center;” src=”” alt=”” border=”0″ />If you’d like to wander off the tourist paths, then consider going to a traveling brocante. I did a wee bit of research for you and on 1-3rd May there will be a traveling brocante at the Brocante Square des Batignolles. BrocaBrac is a great site to discover what flea markets are happening when and where across France. To navigate the site, simply click on the map, check the area of France you will be visiting and a list of flea markets happening within the next month will appear, telling you the location of the markets. Click on the market and more information will appear including the number of vendors and the hours of market operation. Be sure to check out this secret diva source before your next trip to Paris… and speaking of Paris, I’m off myself to the city of light this next weekend, but more on that later!

Until then… à bientôt et bon voyage!
