Attendees at Octobers event included Barbra Streisand and Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Kathryn M. Ireland, and Jeffrey Alan Marks, among many other VIPs and influencers from the worlds of design, fashion, art, entertainment and culture.
This fair – the Los Angeles Antiques, Art + Design Show – happens to be among the crème de la crème of events stateside. This year they have a new location at the 3 Labs Studio locatted in the Hayden Tract arts district in Culver City on LA’s west side. The Hayden Tract, a former warehouse district, is now home to cutting edge architecture, film and design studios, private schools and art galleries. “The new location will be a huge asset to the show,” explains LA co-chair Bianca Chen. “Not only is it conveniently located for our patrons, but it is a great architectural backdrop for the dealers who showcase some of the finest antiques, design objects and fine art from around the world.” Some of the top English dealers were holding court in LA during the show including Sue Brown, William Cook Antiques and Kalms Antiques.
As part of the opening celebration, the Decorative Arts and Design Council honored famed husband and wife team Annie Kelly and Tim Street-Porter as the recipients of LACMA’s prestigious Design Leadership Award. The pair have long been recognized as innovators in the industry, Street-Porter for his iconic architectural and design photography and Kelly as a celebrated interior decorator, design author and critic. Beyond their individual portfolios, which for Tim include Doris Duke’s Shangri La: A House in Paradise and L.A. Modern, the famed couple has collaborated on numerous published titles including Casa Mexicana Style, Casa San Miguel, and their acclaimed Rooms to Inspire series for Rizzoli. Past recipients of the Design Leadership Award have been world-renowned antiquarian Joel Chen and legendary designer and entrepreneur Rose Tarlow.
“The importance of the design and art being created in and around Los Angeles cannot be overstated. Elle Decor, House Beautiful and Veranda find inspiration and new talent here every month,” explains Newell Turner, Editor-in-Chief of the Hearst Design Group.
“Southern California has always inspired dreams of the good life, but its thriving home furnishings industry may be America’s best kept secret” explains the Hearst Design Group SVP and publishing director, Kate Kelly Smith.
