Who Shot The Diva?

Well, the question of the 2010’s might be “Who Shot The Diva?”. Thankfully, murder wasn’t the “mot de jour”. This question pertains to a photo shoot of The Antiques Diva™ for the Crave Amsterdam book to be released in Summer 2010. To real all about Crave, read my blog from last week!

to 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center” alt=”” src=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_kcTb8DnPVW4/S5OefAT8seI/AAAAAAAAEV4/CY9My_KLE_w/s400/Angelica+Arbulu+-+Antiques+Diva+Photo+Shoot+2.jpg” border=”0″ />Angelica has a fascinating story. Born in Mexico (to parents from Spain), she has lived on four continents and considers herself a cultural mutt – although one might say if she’s a mutt, then we’ve just established a new pedigree that is certain to be all the rage! Her wealth of experience permeates her vision of the world and her art. She qualified as a clinical psychologist and, with many years experience in humanitarian work, her focus is on people and human relations. One look at her website and you can see her specialty is capturing the different levels of personality and their essence through the mundane that is often overlooked.

Artist Emma Fordham describes Angelica’s strength as “capturing people and places and making the everyday look beautiful and exotic.” If I were to list her strength, I would say it’s her ability to put people immediately at ease. A day with Angelika was therapy to my soul. Never has the camera been as un-intimidating as it was with her behind the lens!

She had her first solo exhibition in 1993, and has exhibited solo and in groups in various cities throughout Europe, in Asia and the United States since. Her photos hang in private collections as well as in corporate establishments, and have been used for publications throughout the world. She uses digital media, and views the photograph as only the first step in the process, playing with textures, different printing media, collage or hand-painting and digital editing in order to enhance what is already there.

Angelica explains, “I do portraits, be it of a person, a place or a thing. I try to give an honest reflection of what I see, but I also want the outcome to be beautiful. Because I believe art should be beautiful, but also because there is beauty in everything”.

On that note, I’d like to give a special thank you to Cachot Antiek and Neeltje Twiss Art, Antiques and Interiors! Thanks for letting us photograph in your gorgeous shops!!!
